A Certain Something About Lisbon

Welcome to one of the tiniest bookstores in the world. Stepping into Livraria do Simão is like stepping into a time capsule: A. because it’s an ageless place in a burgeoning city, and B. because it literally fits one human.

At just over 40 square feet, owner Simão Carneiro has somehow transformed this former tobacco shop into a bookstore that features over 4,000 books, the most coveted of which are written by Portuguese authors who brought their country and their language to an international stage. Spend this sacred time chatting with Simão and perusing titles that you may never see again. It’s one of those unexpected, little experiences you’ll be telling people about for years.

Don’t be caught off guard as he’ll be standing outside. Bring your umbrella for him, please.
